The Love of Maria Bonde is a German film drama from 1918.
action
The Bonde family, the mother and her three daughters, live together. The sickly Gunne is engaged to Martin. Together they work as art riders in the variety show. Unfortunately, Martin has been in love with his second daughter Maria for a long time. Gunne is injured during a performance and Maria jumps in for Gunne and performs the dressage number. Maria reluctantly admits that she loves Martin too. The two marry, but hide this wedding from the family. When mother Bonde catches them kissing, they finally initiate Gunne, who then dies of shock. After mother Bonde saw the inevitable, she gave her blessing, after which the family lived happily for a while, until one day Maria had a child. This means that she has to give up riding and now Anella, the youngest daughter, appears with Martin. From then on, Maria is tormented by jealousy and despair (rightly!) That she could suffer the same fate as Gunne. She only sees one solution: she is poisoning herself.
