John Mealing

John Mealing (born April 5, 1942 in Yeovil ) is a British keyboardist who was also active as a composer and arranger .

Mealing was a pianist in the quintet of Don Rendell and Ian Carr in the mid-1960s . In 1969 he was one of the founding members of the jazz rock band If , with which he recorded four albums and of which he was a member until the first breakup in 1972. Then Klaus Doldinger brought him into his Passport group ( Second Passport ). Over the next few years he worked with Mick Ronson , John Entwistle , Tim Hardin , Status Quo , Long John Baldry and Michael Giles , before joining the band Strawbs on Nomadness and numerous other albums. As a studio musician, he has also been involved in albums by John Glover , Leo Sayer and the Swingle Singers .

In the mid-1980s, arranged Mealing for The Style Council , The Blow Monkeys, and The Pet Shop Boys . Between 1986 and 1993 he composed for the BBC shows Every Second Counts and Bob's Full House , then for the television series Press Gang and Scarf Jack . He also wrote the music for The Secret Policeman's Biggest Ball (1989).
