The Night of the Open Coffins is a vampire film by the Spanish director Jess Franco.
action
The scientist Dr. Exorcio strives for world domination with the help of demons and wants to ally with the vampire Count Sartana. The vampire hunter Dr. Seward found Sartana in the Carpathian Mountains and killed him with a silver nail. This is how Dr. Exorcio and his servant Morpho in Sartana's castle just present a staked bat.
The scientist brings the vampire back to life by drowning him in blood. Sartana now becomes a slave to Dr. Exorcio and constantly delivers new victims, who are vampirized by electric shocks.
Dr. Seward learns of the vampires' activities, but is caught by a Dr. Exorcio created monster badly wounded. Finally the gypsy curses Amira, whom Dr. Seward nursed the demons shortly before their death and incites the werewolf on them. Ultimately, Dr. Exorcio destroyed.
criticism
The lexicon of international films judges: "Ridiculous mixture of Dracula and Frankenstein clichés."
background
The German version differs from the original version in that it has partly different role names: Dennis Price actually plays Dr. Frankenstein and Howard Vernon actually Count Dracula. This film has little in common with Bram Stoker's novel , but rather sees itself as an homage to the cheap horror films produced by Universal Pictures in the 1940s, in which various film monsters such as Frankenstein and Dracula first met.
Jess Franco made other vampire films during the 1970s such as B. At night, when Dracula wakes up , Vampyros Lesbos - heiress of Dracula , A maiden in the talons of vampires , Desire Unleashed or The Portrait of Doriana Gray .
