The Stadtisten ( own spelling DIE STADTISTEN) are a group of voters from Stuttgart in Baden-Württemberg .

Foundation, history and activity

The idea of founding the Stadtisten came about shortly after the peak of the protests against Stuttgart 21 . Ralph Schertlen and Wolfram Bernhard , who both ran for the mayoral election in Stuttgart in 2012, met with the musician Thorsten Puttenat . The subject of the discussion was the exploration of ways of exerting greater influence on local politics. The disaffection with a “policy that is based on party political principles” was a decisive motivation. The founding meeting of the association Die Stadtisten e. V. as a voter association took place on September 6, 2013, with the aim of participating in the municipal elections in Baden-Württemberg in 2014 . The “City Manifesto”, in which the principles of the initiators are summarized, was published on October 15, 2013. In 2018, the urbanists adopted their local political positions.

aims

According to their own statements, the Stadtisten pursues the goal of taking up the different interests of the citizens of Stuttgart and strengthening pluralism through balancing work . The Stadtisten see themselves not only as a political association, but also as a platform for citizens who want to get involved in Stuttgart. In addition to the local political goals, they emphasize civic engagement as a core goal.

Economic and social policy

The urbanists are critical of the “consumer society”. They are calling for greater regulation of the Stuttgart real estate market with the aim of increasing the number of apartments on offer and lowering rental prices. Civic engagement should be strengthened and supported.

Transport Policy and Urban Development

From the point of view of the cityists, urban planning in Stuttgart is too strongly geared towards the wishes of the economy. Instead, improving the quality of public places and places to stay should play a greater role. The urbanists understand this to mean, for example, increased use of public space for cultural activities and its greater focus on the needs of older people and children. In addition, they call for a more long-term perspective of municipal urban planning and direct participation of the citizens.

The cityists are against the idea of the " car- friendly city ". They also point out problems that can arise in Stuttgart as a result of individual motorized traffic. They rely on the respectful cooperation of all road users and also call for a strengthening of local public transport as well as greater support for car and bike sharing . They advocate better interlinking of the various modes of transport and demand that Stuttgart should orient itself towards the solutions already available from other cities.

Cultural policy

The townspeople advocate stronger promotion of counterculture and subculture . They demand that an “artists' quarter” should be created on areas that may become vacant through Stuttgart 21 , in which new forms of living can be tried out. Small cultural initiatives and projects should be strengthened by reducing the requirements on the part of the city.

Integration policy

The urbanists see diversity as a positive social value. You are calling for additional funds for accessibility in public spaces. Offers that strengthen public spirit should be promoted. They strive for more citizen participation at the municipal level.

structure

The association of voters is supported by the registered association Die Stadtisten .
