The superhero helper (Original title: Sidekick ) is a Canadian animated series by Todd Kauffman and Joey So . The series ran in the original from September 3, 2010 to September 14, 2013 on YTV . It is an offshoot of the Funpak series , more precisely its episode "The Not-So-Superheroic Adventures of Sidekick".

action

The series is about the orphan boy Eric, his best friend Trevor and his two friends Dana and Kitty. The four train together at the Academy for Aspiring Sidekicks in the city of Splittsboro. In addition to the demanding training, Eric has to deal with his strict legal guardian Maxum Brain, his grumpy professor Pamplemoose and the diabolical master XOX. He also has to keep the disappearance of his superhero mentor Maxum Man a secret from the city.

main characters

  • Eric Needles - Eric was adopted as a sidekick by Maxum Man, the greatest superhero of all time (until he disappeared). He's shot at Dana, but later seems to be more interested in Mandy Struction. He grew up in an orphanage with no known parents, although his father is mentioned in an episode of Funpak. Eric always wears T-shirts with a skull print. He and Trevor keep getting into trouble.
  • Trevor Troublemeyer - Eric's best friend. He keeps getting Eric in trouble. Master XOX is his father, but this is not known.
  • Kitty Ko - Though unworldly, she gives advice to the rest of the group and is a good hacker. She is deeply in love with Eric, and almost obsessed with him. It literally has two left legs.
  • Dana Glama - Dana is an over-ambitious prima donna who is not easily too impressive and very superficial. Nevertheless, or perhaps because of that, Eric feels very drawn to her.
  • Maxum Brain - Eric's legal guardian since Maxum Man disappeared. It's a computer with some gadgets and was Maxum Man's assistant before it disappeared. He is very strict about the rules and order in the property. In the original he speaks with an East Indian accent.
  • Maxum Man - Eric's favorite superhero with Superman-like abilities. After he disappears, Eric and Maxum Brain do everything they can to hide it. It seems that Maxum Man always makes an enemy of people by mistake.

Production and publication

The series was created at Studio Nelvana under the direction of Joey So , who developed the concept together with Todd Kauffman . From the second season the director was Kerry Sargent . John Logan was responsible for editing and Don Gauthier and Vesna Mostovac were the artistic directors.

A second season followed with 14 episodes from October 8, 2011 to April 14, 2012 and a further 12 episodes from June 1 to September 14, 2013 .
