YTV is a Canadian English language cable television station. The target group are primarily children. YTV acquires the rights to and broadcasts many series from the similar US television station Nickelodeon .
history
On September 1, 1988, YTV went on air as the successor to two stations that had been operated by various cable television providers since the 1970s. The two largest shareholders of YTV were the two cable companies Rogers Cable and CUC Broadcasting, which was later taken over by Shaw Communications. In 1995, after lengthy efforts, Shaw Communications gained full control of YTV, which was outsourced in 1999 as part of Corus Entertainment.
In 1998, YTV got a new logo based on Nickelodeon and stopped using its previous slogan "Keep It Weird". Starting in autumn 2005, YTV tried to attract an older audience after 6 p.m.
