Dinosaur King ( Japanese 古代 王者 恐 竜 キ ン グ , Kodai Ōja Kyōryū Kingu , dt. About: "ancient ruler / master dinosaur king ") is a trading card game from the Sega company . The game Dinosaur King was developed in 2005 by the Sega company and launched as JAMMA . The game was also released in English. The Nintendo DS version was also released in North America and Europe in 2008.

In the game, cards are collected that can be scanned into slot machines using a barcode. Then the player can compete against others with his dinosaur. There are four different types of cards.

The Dinosaur Cards represent the player's dinosaur and are scanned first. There are cards with different properties and combat strength. Each of these cards can be assigned a type, such as the attack type or the hunter type .

Move cards make it possible to use fighting techniques and movements after scanning. With Super Move Cards you can teach your dinosaur techniques. Character cards make it possible to bring characters from the anime series into the game, who then help you. These cards are only available in Japan.

Dr. Kodai goes on a paleontological mission to Africa with his son, Ryūta Kodai . Rex Owen, Ryūta's best friend, is also attending since his father is traveling. In addition, Dr. Tatsuno, the assistant of Dr. Kodai, and her little sister Malm Tatsuno, who befriends Ryūta and Rex. When Ryūta stumbles over some magical stone slabs with pictures of dinosaurs, it seems as if the three are called for help by the dinosaurs. Apparently an evil organization called "Alpha Gang", led by Dr. Sonoida, who persecute dinosaurs and abuse them for their own malicious purposes. Now it's up to Ryūta, Rex, and her friend Malm to travel the world and Dr. Defeat Sonoida and the Alpha Gang.

Manga

A manga adaptation of the game by Yōhei Sakai was published from February 2006 to October 2007 in the magazine Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic published by Shōgakukan . The chapters have also been published in two edited volumes. An English translation was published by Viz Media .

Anime series

An anime series was produced for the game in 2007 by Studio Sunrise . Directed by Katsuyoshi Yatabe. The series has aired on TV Asahi since February 4, 2007 . On September 8, the broadcast on the US broadcaster 4Kids began. In Germany, the series started on August 8, 2008 on the German broadcaster RTL II . The series was also seen on television in France, Spain, Italy, Latin America and the Philippines. The English version was later published on various streaming platforms , including Hulu and 4kids TV.

The opening title of the series is Chiisa na Bokura no Ōki na Heart ( 小 さ な 僕 ら の 大 き な ハ ー ト , German about: "In us little ones, a big heart beats") by Ichiko. For the credits the song Kyōryū Muscle ( 恐 竜 マ ッ ス ル , dt. "Dinosaur Muscle") by Hiromichi Satō was used.

A new title song was produced for the German version, which is based on the US version. Andy Knote is the producer , and Pat Lawson is the singer.
