Children's television channels

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Children's television channels are special interest channels for young viewers on television .

German language offer

The first German-language television station aimed entirely at children was Nickelodeon , which went on air on July 5, 1995. The first 24-hour children's channel was Junior , which was launched on July 28, 1996 in the DF1 pay-TV package .

If you include Super RTL , whose daily program now consists exclusively of children's programs, there are currently 15 different children's channels in the German-speaking broadcasting area, six of which are on free TV . Eight of these children's channels run around the clock. Nickelodeon is the only 24-hour children's and youth broadcaster on German free TV. Only KiKA is under public law - it also takes on productions that can be seen in the children's programs of ARD and ZDF .

With Toggo plus , a timeshift version of an existing channel, here Super RTL, has been available for the first time since June 4, 2016. However, the Toggo plus program is temporarily used, e.g. B. from 9:15 p.m., supplemented with your own program.

  1. With the switch to free TV on January 17, 2014, the Disney Channel has GfK determine audience ratings.

Super RTL started in the second year of broadcasting with the announcement of the market share. The station has been the market leader among children's television stations since February 1998, currently with a market share of 1.9%. Super RTL achieved the highest market share in 1998 (2.9%) and the lowest in 2013 (1.9%).

KiKA started with the announcement of the market share in the first year of broadcast. The station is currently in second place with 1.2%. KiKA achieved the highest market share in 2009 and 2010 (1.4%), and the lowest market share in the year it started broadcasting (0.6%).

The first version of Nickelodeon did not publish an annual market share, but started in October 1997 with the monthly market share and ended this again when the station was discontinued in May 1998. It was not until the second version that they started, like Super RTL in the second year, with the announcement of the market share . Nickelodeon brings up the rear among free-to-air children's channels, reaching 0.7% of the total audience in 2013. Nickelodeon achieved the highest market share in 2009 (0.9%), the lowest market share it achieved in the year when the market share was published for the first time (2006; 0.5%).

2014

Since the free-to-air Disney Channel started on January 17, 2014, there have been Sometimes large shifts in market shares.

3–13 years

These shifts were felt most clearly in the three to thirteen year olds. The year began with slight losses for Super RTL, KiKA and Nickelodeon. In January 2014, KiKA pushed Super RTL out of number 1 among the children's television channels and became the market leader. This position was retained until March; Super RTL then became the market leader again. From September 2014, the market leadership was lost again to KiKA and again took second place.

In the course of the year, Nickelodeon lost a few percentage points ahead of the Disney Channel, which was rated for the first time with 7.2% in February and, with 9.4%, achieved more percentage points than Nickelodeon for the first time and thus reached third place. In December, however, they lost again in percentage points and shared third place with Nickelodeon with 8.7%.

Nickelodeon lost traction despite all this and lost 1.8% compared to the previous year.

Super RTL lost the most with 3.5%, KiKA the least with 0.4%.
