It started on October 9, 2009 in pay TV and replaced the previously existing Disney channel Jetix . However, unlike Jetix, the broadcast lasted 24 hours. The suffix "XD" is an emoticon: rotated 90 degrees clockwise, it symbolizes a smiling face. The station was discontinued shortly after the start of the Disney + streaming service in German-speaking countries. The last broadcast day was on March 31, 2020 and lasted until 6 a.m. the following day.

reception

On October 9, 2009, Disney XD launched in Germany on Sky in the Sky Welt package and Teleclub and replaced the Disney broadcaster Jetix . However, unlike Jetix, broadcasts last 24 hours. In Switzerland, Disney XD is available on UPC Switzerland in addition to Teleclub.

On April 15, 2010, Disney launched the “Disney XD + 1” channel on Kabel Deutschland, which shows the Disney XD program with one hour delay. He replaces the channel "Toon Disney + 1" there.

On August 2, 2010, a notice was posted on “Disney XD + 1” stating that this station is no longer part of the Home Package. Disney XD will broadcast on Kabel Digital Home until further notice. From September 5, 2013, Disney XD will also be broadcast in HD . The program was only broadcast via cable. There were no plans for a satellite broadcast.

From June 1, 2014, Disney XD and Disney Junior broadcast its program in two-channel sound and optionally offered viewers the English language version. This offer was initially available on the Sky Deutschland, Entertain and Telekom Austria platforms.

The station was removed from Sky on October 1, 2019, from Kabel Deutschland on March 1, 2020 and from Telekom on April 1, 2020. The last setting affected the station entirely in German-speaking countries.

Internet presence

Initially it was planned to create an online streaming service in addition to the broadcast via Sky. It was planned to make all series available on the Internet. In the meantime, however, they have distanced themselves from this project. The official reason for the withdrawal are legal concerns. Instead of the extensive provision of the program, mainly trailers and, more rarely, individual episodes are put online.
