Yin Yang Yo! is an American animated series from 2006, created by Bob Boyle .

The series is about the rabbits - siblings Yin and Yang, who are supposed to learn the ominous martial art "Wu-Fu" from their mentor Yo . With what they have learned, they fight recurring villains such as the Nightmaster, Ultimoose and Carl, the evil cockroach wizard .

Yin Yang Yo! has an episode count of 65, spread over 2 seasons.

Characters

Protagonists

  • Yin is a pink, female bunny. She masters the "mystical side of Wu-Fu". Her fighting techniques consist of sending out brightly shining bundles of energy ("Fu-lumines") and transforming various objects ("Trans-fu-mings"), both of which she hurls at the enemy. As a typical girl, Yin likes dolls (especially so-called “two-ni-corns”), clowns, and hours of gossiping with her best friend Lina.
  • Yang is a blue, male bunny. He masters fighting with weapons and fists, using a sword, the blade of which is a bamboo stick. If the sword seems useless at first glance, it becomes a dangerous weapon when Yang quasi “charges” it with Wu-Fu or transforms it into a boomerang (“yangerang”). His most commonly used Wu-Fu techniques are the “Fu-nado” (an energetic cyclone) and the “Paws of Pain”. As a typical boy, he enjoys fights, object destroying, playing video games , and motorcycles.
  • Yo (also Master Yo ) is an old, male panda bear . He is supposed to teach Yin and Yang the martial art "Wu-Fu". He does that in a certain sense, but more often he chases Yin and Yang around like maids and lets them do chores and errands. He himself prefers to hang around for hours in his wing chair and eat pretzels . As far as can be understood, Yo was a powerful and much admired Wu-Fu knight in his youth who fought against villains like Eradicus and the Night Master. He is also the father of Yin and Yang, which he had to forget again, because he is supposed to train them to be Wu-Fu warriors without any consideration.

Antagonists

  • The Nightmaster is a male archenemy of Yin, Yang and Yo. Until his disappearance, he was the main character of the villains. His real name is unknown ("Nightmaster" is just a title for the world's most senior villain). The Nightmaster is a tall bat with a sarcastic sense of humor and a pronounced tendency to choleric and vindictive . Long ago he was overthrown by Master Yo, with his army turned to stone. Now he tries by all means to regain his army and take revenge on Master Yo.
  • Eradicus is later the main enemy. He's a huge griffin with heavily narcissistic traits and a marked aversion to cutting-edge technology (since he hails from an earlier era, he lacks the technical knowledge and experience). Eradicus loves loud polka music and doesn't understand why people today find this music more cheesy and annoying than scary and intimidating. Added to this is his overconfidence, with which he often ruins his evil plans himself before he can actually carry them out.
  • Carl the evil cockroach wizard is a small, talking and mostly floating cockroach with tangled antennae and a purple cloak. He suffers from a pronounced Oedipus complex and is still living with his mother Edna. He tries to impress her with his evil deeds, but regularly fails due to his immaturity and clumsiness. Carl is permanently jealous of his brother Hermann (an ant ), because he is preferred and pampered by mother Edna. Hermann actually has a large army of ants, but he fails because of the incompetence of his subordinates and because of his allergy to panda hair.
  • Ultimoose is an athletic, upright elk whose weapon is its oversized antlers. This is equipped with all kinds of technical refinements, for example with rotor blades of circular saws, flame throwers and bazookas. Ultimoose is also extremely simple-minded, choleric and also an incorrigible macho . He also annoys bystanders with his scream “Ha-Hu-Haa!”, Which he accentuates with grotesque contortions. This quirk is modeled on the character Denzel Crocker from the Cosmo and Wanda series . In a parallel universe accidentally created by Yang, Ultimoose has become the new Nightmaster thanks to the power of the Amnesielett . With the help of a time warp and all the other bad guys who support Yang, he was able to defeat Ultimoose and conquer the amnesia. With this he erased the memories of "Nightmooster" (as Ultimoose was called in his Nightmaster state) and thus restored order in the universe.
  • Fastidius (aka Fastidius James Spiffington ) is a small, talking golden hamster with a monocle and an almost pathological tendency to excessive cleanliness. He uses his mania for cleaning to make life difficult for Ying and Yang and to harass the city dwellers. Fastidius uses a huge cleaning robot as a weapon, otherwise he rolls around in a small plastic ball like hamsters. In the English original he speaks with a strong British accent.
  • Pondscum is a criminal goldfish who lives in an unadorned fishbowl . This in turn forms the center of a large, gold-lacquered battle armor. Pondscum is extremely greedy and he does everything to get expensive jewelry (" bling-bling ") and money. He is accompanied by two provocative accomplices. He considers himself a gifted dancer and brags about supposed "cool moves" anywhere and anytime. In the course of the series he learns that he is actually not a goldfish, but a tadpole . At the same time he mutates into a frog, which means that he can fight without the combat armor.
  • Chung-Pow-Kitties is the name of a successful but criminal rock band consisting of three cat sisters. Their cute looks belies their ninja skills, which they mainly use to commit robberies. The Chung Pow Kitties are a parody of the Powerpuff Girls .
  • Yuck is a pale green, male rabbit that was accidentally created by Yin and Yang in an argument and combines all the negative traits of Yin and Yang. He embodies Yin's lust for domination and Yang's aggression and has mastered all of her Wu-Fu skills, including her own techniques. According to his personality, his goal is to become the most powerful Wu-Fu warrior of all time and ready to get rid of anyone who gets in his way. Although yin and yang can often outsmart and subdue him, he keeps coming back. Later he even mastered level 5 Wu-Fu techniques. His arrogance and simplicity alone make him fail again and again.
  • Zarnot is a Transformers - action figure that was raised from the Lügenfee to life and equipped with its own personality. Zarnot was once Yang's favorite toy until the Lying Fairy showed up. Zarnot was relegated to a toy box for his constant chatter, ridiculous demeanor, and rebellion. Since then, he has been eager to either get Yang back or get back at him. Neither one nor the other is crowned with success.
  • Schall & Rauch are siblings and their fighting and speaking style is a parody of the “Team Rocket” from the Pokémon series . Their names are a play on words on smoke and mirrors . Schall is male, has black, spiky hair and always leaves his upper body bare. His hair and clothes are an allusion to the character Son Goku from Dragon Ball Z . His habits of handing out exploding roses and choppy and stilted speech parody the character James of the Pokémon series. Rauch, on the other hand, is a slim girl with long, bright pink hair. Her appearance is a reference to Usagi Tsukino from the Sailor Moon series . Her oversized sword is modeled on that of the character Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII . She is opinionated and likes to scream. Because of their immaturity and their respective selfishness, sound and smoke constantly clash, constantly trying to outdo each other. With this behavior they regularly thwart their own plans, but without noticing it. Their actual common main concern is to capture fighters and strong creatures with their so-called “prison prisms ” in order to let them compete against each other. The way of capturing monsters with prisms and having them held competitions in crowded arenas is also based on the Pokémon series.
  • Saranoia is a slim, tall witch with feline features. Her name is an allusion to the term paranoia : she lives in the delusion of having been robbed of her childhood and youth by her father and now blames the entire world of men for it. In Yin, of all things, she sees her likeness from childhood, in Yang she sees her brother, of whom she was always jealous. Accordingly, Saranoia's plans are designed to completely win Yin and to humiliate Yang. However, both fail because yin does not take them seriously and saranoia underestimates Yang. Saranoia's hateful and cynical assistant GP regularly stabs her in the back, but in turn has to slip into absurd roles whenever Saranoia hatches a new plan.
  • Mastermind is an evil wizard in the form of a floating brain with no body of its own. According to his own statement, he lost it many centuries ago after a long reign of terror on a distant planet. Now he lives in a skull mask. He is constantly looking for a victim to steal his body.
  • Craggler is a Gargoyle in old age , he was in the past one of the opponent of Master Yo. He has the ability to rob living beings of their youth and old age and to use this for his own purposes. You can see him in the episodes in which he appears, often switching between “baby”, “young adult” and “old man”. This is due to the short-term ability: every few minutes it has to steal new energy. The only thing that can stop him is the thought of stealing innocent children from childhood in his reckless behavior. Otherwise, his plans fail because of his senility and age-related narcolepsy .
  • Ella Mental, Rubber Chucky, Indestructobob and Molecu-Lars are Eradicus' lakeies. Molecu-Lars disappears after his first debut . Ella Mental has PSI powers but is easily distracted and cheeky. Rubber Chucky can stretch and imitate various shapes and objects, but behaves recklessly and incompetently. Indestructobob is almost indestructible, but mentally underexposed and easy to deceive. Molecu-Lars has the ability to manipulate molecules in its environment. In the original it has a German accent. All three (or four) are more or less subject to Eradicus' orders, but usually only carry them out half-heartedly or only listen reluctantly, which is why their plans reliably fail.
  • Nörgelborner (in the English version Grizzleflavin ) is the guardian of the Nightmaster's castle. He only lets the “very bad guys” into the fortress. Nörgelborner is made of stone and has an extremely dark voice. After the Nightmaster's lock went down, Nörgelborner also disappeared.

Supporting characters

  • Lina is Yin and Yang's best friend. She is a Chihuahua and the daughter of a wealthy farmer. She is secretly into Yang, but for a long time does not dare to admit it. They share the common fun of gossiping and gossiping as well as strolling for hours in the shopping center with Yin.
  • Coop is a young, upright, talking rooster . He wears glasses and braces and has a crush on yin. It doesn't bother him in any way that Yin keeps rejecting him. Coop is the Night Master's secret helper and spy, when he realizes what he's doing, he sacrifices himself and absorbs all of the Night Master's evil energy. This has the unpleasant side effect that Coop turns into an aggressive and criminal rocker if he is provoked or exposed. This also happens when he realizes that Yin is being teased or laughed at. Yin alone can calm him down again.
  • Dave is a walking and talking tree stump. He is anxious and is often called upon by Yang and Roger Jr. bullied, but soon discovers that he has power over plants and trees and can call on them to provide active support in battle. He later uses this to fight various bad guys. This gives him a lot of self-confidence and maturity.
  • Roger Jr. is a troll boy and is Yin and Yang's neighbor. Yang and roger jr. often fight each other, later it turns out that Roger admires Yang and wants to be friends with him. At first, Yang has a hard time, but soon the two actually teamed up and are now picking up Dave and the bad guys together.
  • Malodea (in the English original Melodia ) is the princess of the "stinky appendages" in the "Kingdom of the rotten pointed cabbage". She is an aardvark and resides in a castle that is shaped like a toilet. Her trademark is her bad breath and body odor, which makes flowers wither and even birds fall from the sky. Her subordinates are aardvarks in ninja outfits. After initial arguments based on misunderstandings, Yin and Yang make friends with Malodea.
  • The lying fairy always appears when Yin or Yang (or both) lie too often. With her spells she is actually trying to teach the children a lesson, but yin and yang only misuse their spells to do more nonsense. The lying fairy was also the one who created the villain “Zarnot”.
  • The lesson is a one-eyed male personification of morality and upbringing wearing tights, a cape and a mortarboard. However, he always acts so stupidly that he causes more damage than it is good, and in the end he thoroughly embarrassed himself.
  • Water spirit, wind spirit and mud spirit are three filthy spirits that were to be captured and destroyed on behalf of Fastidius. Yin and Yang saved the three and fought together with them against Fastidius. Whenever Fastidius goes through his cleaning mania, the trio is at the side of Yin and Yang to support them in their fight against him.
  • Edna is Carl and Hermann's dragon mother. She prefers Hermann while she chases Carl around like a servant (similar to Yo with Yin and Yang).

Others

  • The Wu-Fu-Aura is a technique used by the Wu-Fu knights, which envelop them with an image of their outline. This image consists of Wu-Fu energy and makes the fighters big, strong, skillful and fast. Yin couldn't control her aura at first and was locked into her subconscious. As a result, the aura developed a life of its own. However, Yang was able to defeat the Yin aura and save Yin. The aura has different colors in different fighters. Yo has a green, Yang a blue, and Yin a pink aura. With intense concentration, one can let the auras melt together. This creates a particularly strong "unit aura". Coop also has a kind of aura, but this is red and does not consist of Wu-Fu energy, but of the dark energy of the Night Master.
