At the center of the action are two friends, both women of Berlin society. One of them is married and with the help of her friend is cheating on her own husband. During social evenings, the friend secretly arranges a meeting between the faithless wife and her boy of love. The friend covers up this adulterous act and thus not only endangers her own good reputation, but also her own life ...

Production notes

The reason of the heart was filmed in the Mutoskop studio in Berlin-Lankwitz until May 18, 1910 . Depending on the source, the one-act play was 141, 145 or 146 meters long, making it a short film. The production costs were 964.05 marks. The world premiere took place on July 1, 1910.

classification

“It is remarkable how taking sides for love and against marriage is expressed in the solidarity of women shown, so that not only traditional morality takes a back seat, but the figure of the husband also appears ridiculous. The story is largely told from the point of view of women. "

- Heidi Schlüpmann, film historian
