The Apartment is an Israeli-German documentary from 2011 .

content

Arnon Goldfinger, director of the film, is liquidating the apartment of his grandmother Gerda Tuchler, who died at the age of 98 , together with his mother and relatives in Tel Aviv . She lived there for 70 years as a Jecke with her husband Kurt Tuchler , after the family from Berlin emigrated from the German Reich to Palestine in 1936 . Grandmother's apartment houses disturbing mementos. Countless letters, photos and documents from several decades contain evidence that the Jewish grandparents were close friends with the family of SS officer Leopold von Mildenstein . The film traces the grandparents' reasons for the friendship with Mildenstein and his career in the NSDAP and tries to fathom the past through interviews with contemporary witnesses, such as with Mildenstein's daughter.
