The mysterious dragon's cave is child's play by the game designers Carlo Emanuele Lanzavecchia and Walter Obert . The game for two to four players, ages five and up, lasts around 15–20 minutes per round. It was published by Drei Magier Spiele in 2015 and was included on the recommendation list for Children's Game of the Year 2016.

Theme and equipment

The game is about a little dragon looking for sparkling gems in its cave. In addition to the set of instructions, the game material consists of a double-sided game board with two different plans of the dragon's cave, under which there are two smaller game boards with magnets, a dragon figure with a battery and a luminous flame, a cube with the numerical values 2 to 4 and a dragon as well as 30 gem cards.

Style of play

The playing field is set up before the game begins. For this, the two small game boards are placed in the game box, and the large game board comes on top. The players are each given two gem cards in different colors (if they have two of the same colors, they must swap one card for a new one). The starting player receives the dice and the dragon figure is placed in the middle of the game board.

The starting player rolls the dragon die and advances the dragon figure according to the number shown along the paths on the board. If he rolls a dragon symbol, he can place the dragon on any space. Due to the magnetic contacts below the playing field, the flame of the dragon figure lights up in some fields. If the dragon lands on such a space at the end of a turn, the player may discard one of his hand cards of the corresponding gem color and draw a new card. Then it is the next player's turn. The players have to memorize the fields where the dragon fire lights up and head for them in order to be able to discard their cards.

As soon as a player was allowed to discard six gem cards, he has won the game.

reception

The game The Mysterious Dragon Cave was developed by Carlo Emanuele Lanzavecchia and Walter Obert and published in 2015 by Drei Magier Spiele , the children's game brand of the Schmidt Spiele publishing house , for the Nuremberg Toy Fair . Like numerous other games from the publisher, The Mysterious Dragon Cave was illustrated by Rolf Vogt . It was on the 2016 list of recommendations of the Children game of the year received. The jury for children's game of the year justified its decision as follows:

"[...] Edgar only lights up in the right fields - these should be remembered well. Because a sophisticated mechanism allows it to shine again and again: a magical, in truth a magnetic effect for children, which can be varied from game to game. The result is a fascinating memory game in which enlightenment is guaranteed. "

After the first multilingual version of the game at Drei Magier Spiele, another version was published in Polish.
