action

Yves lives with his two sons Sylvain and Pierre, 16 and 18 years old, in two caravans with a few animals in the middle of nature. Yves lost custody of the children eleven years ago. After visiting him, he did not bring the children back to their mother and has been on the run with them ever since. They sell homemade honey, cheese and eggs at the local market. Pierre longs for a normal life. One day mug photos of them are posted in the area. Nevertheless, the boys venture into the village, where Pierre speaks to girls, whereupon they are insulted as gypsies and persecuted. They flee with their horse; after Sylvain has dismounted, Pierre makes off. Yves and Sylvain leave immediately, leaving almost everything behind. But Sylvain insists on taking his dog with him.

They first come to live with Yves' friend Elena, who suggests that Yves surrender. When their car breaks down, the police take an interest in them. They flee across the river, with Yves sacrificing the dog that could betray them. They steal a small houseboat. They feel safe on a river island and want to spend a few days there. Sylvain meets Gina, who is on vacation with her father, and falls in love with her. First he tells her made up stories about himself and his father. Finally he tells her the truth, which she finds interesting. Yves calls Elena a few times, from whom he learns that Pierre is in Orléans , where her mother also lives.

Elena arranges a place to stay on a horse farm where they can work. Sylvain has more and more differences with his father and wants to stay with Gina. In the end, however, he accompanies his ailing father, for whom he feels responsible. When there is aggression against an employee at the horse farm, Sylvain realizes that he can no longer stay with his father. He goes to see Pierre in Orléans, who works in a restaurant there. When Sylvain asked about his mother, Pierre replied that he had only seen her from a distance. Sylvain finds her on a bench in a playground, where she takes care of a child. He sits down next to her and they make eye contact.

"Sensitive coming-of-age drama that embeds age-related decisions and replacement processes in an unusual framework."
