The uncanny women (English title The Uncanny Women ) is an experimental film by the German filmmaker Birgit Hein from 1991 . The film deals with the subject of the depth psychological “ fear of men in front of women” and questions the stereotype of the victim role of women.
The film shows women soldiers , partisans , guards, criminals , women giving birth, drunk, masturbating, strong women, but also the circumcised, operated and dismembered victims who suffer from the consequences of the fear of men. The film consists of scenes from old and new documentaries , from trivial films and own, staged sequences that are put together .
The film premiered in 1991 at the International Forum of New Cinema at the Berlinale Film Festival.
In 2017 the film was launched as bonus material on the DVD Baby I will make You Sweat by the company absolut Median .
