The darn 7 was a game show presented by Rudi Carrell . With her Carrell had after a long break, with the end of At the churning began again a Saturday night show .

prehistory

Carrell had withdrawn completely from television after the untimely end of Churning Band and then created Rudi's daytime show . After a while he liked the idea of having a Saturday night show on German television again. He made his first attempt with the generation show Under the Rainbow , which ran on New Year's Eve 1983 at 8:15 p.m. As usual that day, it was a recording. It was unsuccessful and Carrell found the concept only suitable for the weekday. There he was already represented with Rudi's daytime show, so he didn't stick to this show.

At the same time, from November 11, 1983, Carrell presented KRO De 1, 2, 3 Show on Dutch television with great success. It ran once a week, had a total of twelve issues and was linked to a fundraising campaign for the De Zonnebloem charity . It was a license from Un, dos, tres ... responda otra vez , the original Spanish game show created by "Chicho" Ibáñez , which has been on Spanish television since 1972 . The international success of the format gave Carrell the idea of creating a German version as well, which was named Die verflixte 7 . The title referred to the seven prizes from which the candidates had to choose one.

procedure

The darn 7 had an unusual structure and consisted of two very different parts:

First part

The first part took about 30 minutes and consisted of a themed backdrop as from On churning was known. The same goes for the games that take place there. The aim was to determine a winning pair from three pairs of candidates, for which there were recognition, guessing and creativity games. The two pairs of losers received consolation prizes. This was for the last DM 77.77 per point earned; the digits had been chosen with a view to the seven in the title of the show.

Second part

The second part lasted about 60 minutes and was used to select one of seven prizes. Carrell took a seat at a table with the winning couple. Then he presented the prices, showed a symbolic object and gave a description. The candidates always had to exclude a price, which Carrell then presented with the words: That would have been their price! The saying was inextricably linked to the show and became a catchphrase . Among the prices there was always a rivet, about 10,000 chewing gum balls, which was brought in on a wagon designed as a bad luck marie; but the other prizes were also valued differently. The last prize that was not excluded went to the candidates.

production

Live broadcast

The first editions of Die verflixte 7 were broadcast live, as was the case with Amlauf Band . Then a mishap happened: Roby Gasser was a guest with his two sea lions to perform tricks. When they did not show up after the announcement, Carrell had to run backstage to check and finally change the program, as the sea lions had been frightened and could only perform later. Although Carrell mastered the mishap without any problems and amused the audience, he went on to record the show the day before. The ideal he was striving for was the perfect, glitch-free show.

Venue

In the first year, the show was broadcast alternately from a Radio Bremen studio and from Joop van den Ende in Aalsmeer . The spectators were brought there by bus from Germany. For the second year, the move was made to host the show in various large event halls in Germany. The venues were Duisburg ( Rhein-Ruhr-Halle ), Bremen ( Stadthalle ), Bochum ( Ruhrlandhalle ), Hamburg ( sports hall ), Bremerhaven ( Stadthalle ) or Oldenburg ( Weser-Ems-Halle )

The last edition took place in Wuppertal ( Uni-Halle ).

Do you understand fun

Rudi Carrell had ruled out being tricked in front of a hidden camera . He was always so attentive that he would notice something like this immediately. Kurt Felix succeeded in his program Do you understand fun? yet. With the support of Carrell's wife Anke, he had the couple's private bed dismantled and secretly rebuilt behind the scenes of Die verflixte 7 . Paola and Kurt Felix lay down in it, showing their bare feet from under the covers. That should be the award that candidates have won. When Carrell asked for the curtain to be opened and saw the bed as the price described on a plaque as A Day in Rudi's Bed , he was surprisingly confused. He asked if the people were dressed under the covers, pulled away one of the covers and saw at the sight of Paola that he had been set up. Kurt Felix first had to point out to him that it was actually his own bed. As Carrell then on the show Do You Understand Fun ? occurred, he said that he had always resolved to react calmly in case he was unexpectedly set up and couldn't understand why he had behaved "so stupidly".

success

The darn 7 did not turn out to be a phenomenal success, but it was a decent success, which quickly made Carrell's mishap with Under the Rainbow forgotten.
