Diedrich Gottschalk Baedeker (born July 13, 1850 in Essen ; † August 3, 1922 there ) was a German publisher , bookseller and editor.

Born as the son of the publisher Julius Baedeker , Diedrich Gottschalk Baedeker graduated from high school and then studied history, art history and economics in Berlin and Leipzig . Between 1872 and 1875 he lived partly in Greece and the Orient .

In 1876 and 1877, Baedeker worked as an editor for the Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung in Leipzig. This was followed by a position, also as an editor, at the Schlesische Zeitung in Breslau until 1880 . Immediately thereafter, until 1895, he headed the political section of the Rheinisch-Westfälische Zeitung , which was published by his own publishing house.

From 1890 Baedeker was a partner in G. D. Baedeker Verlag . From 1903 to 1922 he was the sole owner of the publishing house, followed by his son Alfred Wilhelm Baedeker . From 1899 until his death, Diedrich Gottschalk Baedeker was the editor of the yearbook for the Oberbergamtsiertel Dortmund and also wrote the work of Alfred Krupp and the development of the cast steel factory in Essen .

Baedeker was also a board member of the German Colonial Society . From 1896 he held the office of chairman of the Essen trade association. He was also co-founder and chairman, and from 1920 honorary chairman, of the booksellers' association of the Rheinisch-Westfälischen industrial area.

Diedrich Gottschalk Baedeker was buried in the Ostfriedhof in Essen .
