Diedrich Ehmck
Diedrich Rudolf Ehmck (born January 13, 1836 in Bremen ; † March 17, 1908 in Bremen) was a German philologist , historian and senator in Bremen .
biography
Ehmck was the son of a member of the Krameramt (office of the shopkeepers ) in Bremen. He studied a. a. History at the University of Jena and the University of Berlin and obtained a doctorate in Dr. phil. in Jena .
In Bremen he was commissioned by the Senate in 1858 to reissue the Bremen document book. The funds for this were approved in 1860. The first three new works in the document book appeared from 1862 to 1865. In 1861, Ehmck was a co-founder of the Society for Bremen History and Antiquity Research , from 1862 a department of the Artists' Association , later the Bremen Historical Society .
In 1863 Ehmck became Senate Secretary. In 1875 he was elected senator . He worked in the areas of the church and teaching commission of the Senate and was active in matters of the Bremen City Library . He was instrumental in the development of secondary schools and girls' schools . In 1907 he became seriously ill and resigned from his senatorial office.
Ehmck was buried in the Riensberg cemetery in Bremen (grave location: grid square Q).
