Diego Aracena Airport , in Spanish Aeropuerto Internacional Diego Aracena is an international airport in Chile , 45 kilometers from the city of Iquique .
The airport was inaugurated in 1973. It is built as a military and commercial airport, although the Fuerza Aérea de Chile , which maintains the Base Aérea Los Cóndores here, was initially the largest user. Over time, civil air traffic at the airport became more and more important. In 2008 they already handled 500,000 passengers a year. During the same period, the civil side of the airport was also extensively refurbished, including a new terminal. After the modernization, the airport is now one of the most modern in the country.
