JetSmart is a Chilean low-cost airline based in Santiago . It was founded by the US private equity company Indigo Partners , which also controls the US Frontier Airlines , the Mexican Volaris and the Hungarian airline Wizz Air . The main base of JetSmart is Santiago de Chile Airport . The airline started commercial operations on July 25, 2017 with the Santiago - Calama connection .

history

JetSmart applied for their Air Operator Certificate (AOC) on January 26, 2017; it was granted in June 2017. It started operations with three Airbus A320ceo with flights within Chile. It is planned to expand operations to the South American market. In the future, JetSmart plans to use the new A320neo .

On December 4, 2019, Norwegian Air Argentina was sold by the parent company Norwegian Air Shuttle to JetSmart for an undisclosed amount, which will take over the operation of the airline with immediate effect. For the months after the sale, JetSmart had planned to phase out the Norwegian brand and to integrate the airline into its own Argentinian airline, JetSmart Argentina . Norwegian Air Argentina’s three Boeing 737 aircraft, owned by Norwegian Air Shuttle but registered in Argentina, were not among the company's assets that were sold to JetSmart. They are scheduled to return to Norwegian Air Argentina’s European operations, while JetSmart will use Airbus A320 Family aircraft in their place .

Destinations

JetSmart plans to expand the fleet to up to 10 aircraft in 2018. Main competitors are LATAM Airlines , Sky Airline and Latin American Wings.
