Volaris (trade name of the Mexican group Concesionaria - Vuela Compañia de Aviación SA de CV ) is a Mexican airline based in Mexico City .
history
In 2003, the Discovery Americas I fund and TACA met to create a new Mexican airline. The preparations up to the first flight stretched over three years. The founders and co-owners of Volaris are the media group Grupo Televisa , the insurance company Inbursa , the Grupo TACA and Protego Discovery Fund . Each of them invested 25% (or US $ 100 million) in the construction costs.
In 2006, Airbus delivered the first of 16 A319-100s on order.
Volaris offers shuttle bus connections under the name Terraris from San Diego to Tijuana Airport and from Santa Ana, Caborca, Nogales, Cananea, Agua Prieta, Guaymas-San Carlos, Ciudad Obregón, Navojoa or Magdalena to Hermosillo Airport and back .
On April 27, 2009, Volaris started its international expansion with the announcement of the flight destinations Los Angeles and Oakland .
Destinations
Volaris flies to numerous destinations within Mexico from the hubs in Guadalajara , Mexico City , Monterrey and Tijuana . The main base is at Tijuana Airport .
There are also flights to cities in Costa Rica , Guatemala , Puerto Rico and around 20 destinations in the USA .

Trivia
- The name Volaris is a combination of volar (to fly) and the north star Polaris. He was selected from over 1000 suggestions.
