Toluca International Airport , officially named Licenciado Adolfo López Mateos Aeropuerto Internacional ( IATA code : TLC , ICAO code : MMTO ) is an airport in Toluca , Mexico . It is part of the Sistema Metropolitano de Aeropuertos . The airport is mainly served by low-cost airlines such as Interjet and Volaris , but also Aeroméxico Connect to serve Mexico City . The airport is named after the former Mexican President Adolfo López Mateos .

It is considered a prime alternative to Mexico City Airport as it is only 30 minutes or 25 miles from the Santa Financial Center. It also has the longest runway in the country. Low-cost airlines advertise the airport under the name Toluca / Mexico City.

overview

While 145,000 passengers still used the airport in 2002, it was 3.2 million in 2007 and 4.3 million in 2008. The airline Volaris used it as a hub before moving it to Guadalajara . Also Interjet has the majority of its flights to Mexico City relocated. As a result, the number of passengers fell significantly to 1,161,064 passengers in 2013 and 865,037 passengers in 2015.

The original four terminals at the airport were reduced to two terminals after all domestic flights were handled in a separate terminal. Before 2007 there was a separate terminal each for Interjet and Volaris , as well as a terminal each for national and international flights. By expanding the remaining terminals and the apron, the airport's capacity has been increased to over 6 million passages annually.
