The Punta Arenas airport (officially Aeropuerto Internacional Presidente Carlos Ibáñez del Campo) is a Chilean airport , some 5 kilometers north of the city of Punta Arenas in the Magallanes is. It is considered to be the central Chilean airport in southern Patagonia.
General
The airport is the southernmost airport on mainland Chile and the main airport of the Región de Magallanes. It was inaugurated in 1950, nowadays it is also very much used by tourists who visit southern Patagonia , especially Puerto Natales , the Torres del Paine National Park and Tierra del Fuego . It is also the starting point for flights to the Antarctic, especially to Base Presidente Eduardo Frei Montalva . The airport was continuously expanded. The airport is also used by the Chilean Air Force .
