Diego Brambilla
Diego Alberto Brambilla (born February 17, 1969 in Monza ) is a former Italian judoka . He was third in the 1995 World Cup.
Athletic career
The 1.75 m tall Diego Brambilla fought in the lightweight, the weight class up to 71 kilograms. In 1987 he was fifth in the European Junior Championships. In 1988 he won the silver medal behind the German Stefan Dott , in 1989 he also won silver, this time behind Wladimeri Dgebuadze from the Soviet Union. In 1990 he was third at the Tournoi de Paris and at the World Student Championships. In 1992 he won his first Italian championship title, and more followed in 1993 and 1995.
In 1993 he finished fifth at the European Championships in Athens . After losing in the quarter-finals to Vladimeri Dgebuadze, who is now starting for Georgia, he reached the battle for a bronze medal with two wins in the hope round, which he lost to the French Patrick Rosso . Rosso and Brambilla also faced each other in the final of the Mediterranean Games in 1993, the Frenchman won again. At the World Championships in Hamilton Brambilla reached the semi-finals. After the defeat against Hungary's Bertalan Hajtós, he lost to the Japanese Daisuke Hideshima in the battle for bronze .
In 1994 he lost to Bertalan Hajtós in the round of 16 at the European Championships in Gdansk and finally finished ninth. In 1995 he lost at the World Championships in Chiba in the round of 16 against Jimmy Pedro from the United States. With three wins in the round of hope, he reached the battle for bronze and won this against the Brazilian Sebastian Pereira . At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta Brambilla met Bertalan Hajtós in his first fight, the Hungarian won with a small score (Koka).
