Diego Leonardo Longo

Diego Longo (born November 19, 1978 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentinian drummer and percussionist . The musician who lives in Germany mainly plays jazz , but also appears in other genres such as world music, Afro-American and Latin American music

Musical career

Longo comes from Morón , Provincia de Buenos Aires and began taking guitar lessons at the age of 15 . After playing in several bands during his school days, he finally studied classical percussion at the Conservatorio Provincial de Música de Morón "Alberto Ginastera" in Buenos Aires , at the same time began his drum studies with Maestro Luis de la Torre in the field of jazz drums and received lessons in Bombo Legüero , with the renowned Argentinian folkloric percussionist Carlos Rivero .  

Until he was 30, Longo devoted himself intensively to the Cuerda de Tambores de Candombe ; Large parades in San Telmo are accompanied by numerous drums that play complex rhythms together. He deepened his knowledge of African American music as well as Latin American percussion techniques and instruments, such as the Cajón Peruano , the timba l and the bongo . In 2006 he traveled to Curitiba in Brazil to deepen his knowledge of Brazilian music.

In the past 20 years he has worked with many different composers and has played at several world premieres.

Longo received a scholarship from the Goethe Institute and the “Schools: Partners for the Future” (PASCH) initiative in Argentina . Since 2016 he has been playing with jazz , rock , pop and latin bands at European festivals. Appearances on "Live uit Lloyd (RTV Rijnmond)", " Caliente! @ Züri Fäscht ”,“ Over het IJ Festival ”,“ Miracle Hill Benefiz Festival ”with Ema Yazurlo & Quilombo Sonoro, the Tollwood Festival , the Word Music Horizonte Festival in Koblenz and the World Music Festival in Loshausen are all part of his artistic work .

Longo built his drum studio in Heidelberg in 2018 . In 2019 he presented the project La Peña, long live the local music scene, with members of The 4 Initiative ! He also teaches as a drummer at the Pro-Drum School in Heidelberg & Bad Rappenau and the Bauland Music School in Seckach. In 2019, Longo coordinated a youth and children's orchestra at the Bauland music school under the direction of the composer Gabriel Amadeo Videla, based on the concept of José Antonio Abreu , who developed the national system of youth and children's orchestras in Venezuela.

Longo is also the author of the music textbook Manual de lectoescritura musical. At the Jugend musiziert competition , students also presented his compositions.
