Diego Ribero
Diego Ribero (Portuguese: Diogo Ribeiro , also called Diego de Ribero , Diego (de) Rivero , Diego Ribeiro or Diego Ribeira ) († August 16, 1533 ) was a Spanish cartographer and explorer of Portuguese descent.
He was initially, from 1518, in the service of Charles V as a cartographer for the authority Casa de Contratación in Seville . Just a year later, he received Spanish citizenship. A short time later he worked out the maps of the Magellan expedition , which had just completed the first circumnavigation.
On January 10, 1523 he received the title cosmógrafo real and maestro de hacer cartas, astrolabios y otros instrumentos de navegación .
In 1524, Ribero took part as a Spanish delegate at the Badajoz Conference , at which Spain and Portugal diplomatically resolved the territorial dispute over the Philippines . This also involved the implementation of the Tordesillas Treaty .
In 1531 he invented a bronze water pump that delivered a ten-fold higher flow rate than the previous pumps.
He died on August 16, 1533.

Padrón real
Ribero's greatest achievement is the creation of the Padrón real map from 1527, copies of which are in the Weimar Classic Foundation (Mundus Novus) and the Vatican Library . It is the first world map to be based on empirical research. A lot of information from Juan Sebastián Elcano flowed into the map . Ribero was ahead of the cartographer Sebastian Cabot , who also worked out a world map, but did not publish it until 1547.
The representation of Central and South America was very precise for the time , but Australia and Antarctica were missing . India was shown too small, but the map shows the vastness of the Pacific Ocean for the first time. All Spanish warships were equipped with it from then on.
A spherical projection of Ribero's world map from 1529 is located in Königsbrunn as the world's largest historical globe, the “ Mercateum ” .
