Ranks of the fire brigade in Lower Saxony
Volunteer firefighter
In Lower Saxony, the ranks from fire-fighting master are tied to a certain service position that the person to be promoted must hold. However, the rank is retained even when resigning from this position. For all leadership ranks, the minimum requirement is the completed training as a group leader (i.e. the courses group leader 1 and 2), the requirement for this is in turn two technical courses (one of which is a radio operator course). The promotions for team ranks can be carried out by the fire chief , promotions from the fire chief are i. d. Usually carried out by the city or community fire chief. There must be a waiting period of at least one year between two promotions.
Rank badge
SB stands for collective name. For example, because OFM stands for chief firefighter, SB is added in brackets to denote women: OFM (SB). In some fire brigades, "OFM / OFF" is used instead (Oberfeuerwehrmann / Oberfeuerwehrfrau). "OFM / OFF" means the same as "OFM (SB)".
Note: Fireman (SB) is also used to designate a firefighter regardless of the rank.
