The ranks of the fire brigades in Thuringia are based on the Thuringian Fire Brigade Organization Ordinance. Collective bargaining employees in the municipal fire service wear rank and sleeve badges of the comparable grade of civil servants.

Fire chief		10 years senior fire fighting foreman with group leader training or 5 years senior fire fighting foreman with train driver training or training as a union leader
Chief Fire Officer		10 years fire supervisor with train driver training or 5 years fire supervisor with training as a union leader
Chief fire chief		10 years chief fire officer and training to become an association leader
