The Diessen is a wheeled motor ship on the Ammersee , which runs regular service between the towns on the lake in summer. The ship is marketed as a paddle steamer , although it is no longer a steamship .
The ship has a total length of 49.80 meters and a width of 13.20 meters. It is approved for 400 passengers and has 135 indoor seats. The two paddle wheels are hydraulically driven and can also be operated in opposite directions for better maneuverability. The main engines are two Deutz diesel engines with a total output of 760 kW , which enable a top speed of a good 12 knots .
history
The ship was built in 1908 as a side wheel steamer and named after the market in Dießen am Ammersee . With the exception of the Augsburg , all ships on the Ammersee are named after communities in the Ammersee region. In 1975 the Diessen was converted to diesel drive. A general renovation in the winter of 2005/2006 at the Lux shipyard meant that the ship was largely rebuilt and cost 3.8 million euros. It was returned to service on July 3, 2006.
