Career

Exter grew up in Hessisch Lichtenau . He later worked for the Federal Border Police and as an export merchant. In his early 20s he started at WDR 2 and hr3 . The change to SR 1 Europawelle followed quickly , where Exter was the longest-serving presenter and could be heard in practically all programs. From the beginning of 2007 he moderated the evening program Exters Musikwelt , which focused primarily on audience participation. In addition, he has moderated the SR1 lounge on Saturday evenings at irregular intervals since 2009 . Since September 1998 Exter has also been the DJ of the weekly hit parade, which was first called TOP and then SR 1 listener charts , with now almost 550 issues. After a program reform in August 2011, Exter moderated fewer programs on SR1, instead he could be heard regularly alternating with Nadja Dominik and Frank Hofmann in the ARD hit night of SR3 Saarlandwelle , which since October 4, 2011 has been the ARD night express and the ARD Replaced clock radio . Since January 2018, the NDR has been producing the ARD hit night as part of the NDR 1 night.

Dieter Exter died surprisingly on April 17, 2019 at the age of 64. The evening before, he was still on air in his “Absolut Music” format.
