Dieter Grunow

Dieter Grunow (born November 20, 1944 in Papitz ) is a German sociologist and professor emeritus for political science and administrative science at the University of Duisburg-Essen . He heads the research group systems analysis for administration and politics and is a board member of the Institute for Work and Qualification.

His work focuses on empirical administrative research , evaluation research, public administration close to the citizen , social and health policy, and environmental policy . He is an advisor to numerous local governments and is a multiple author.

Career

From 1966 to 1971 Grunow studied sociology , economics , political science and German at the University of Tübingen , in Jackson (USA) and in Münster . In 1971 he became a research associate at Bielefeld University and received his dissertation in 1975 on the subject of everyday contacts with the administration . As head of research projects on empirical administrative research and health policy , he completed his habilitation there in 1983 with the text Debureaucratisation in the welfare state .

After a short research stay in the USA, he was visiting professor at the GHS Kassel in 1980/81 and then a research fellow at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research at Bielefeld University for the program "Guidance, Control and Evaluation in the Public Sector". From 1984 he worked in Kassel as a professor for administrative science and administrative economics and was appointed to the University of Duisburg in 1986 . As a member of the Rhine-Ruhr Institute for Social Research and Policy Advice, he became its managing director in 2006.

He has been a board member at the Institute for Work and Qualification at the University of Duisburg-Essen since 2007 and at the Confucius Institute in Duisburg since 2009 and retired in March 2010 .

In the self-administration of the University of Duisburg-Essen he was a member of the faculty council and deputy dean , and 1999–2000 Vice Rector for Planning and Finance. He works as a consultant a. for municipalities, the municipal community center for administrative management , the Ministry of Finance of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and some federal ministries.

Grunow's publications mainly concern the areas of empirical administrative research, proximity of public administration; Implementation and evaluation research, social and health policy, environmental policy and modernization research.
