Dieter Kabisch

Dieter Kabisch (born January 19, 1931 in Leipzig , † February 20, 1999 in Kleinmachnow ) was a German doctor, gynecologist and sports medicine specialist. His life's work was shaped by the organization of comprehensive sports medical care in the GDR .

After graduating from high school, studying medicine in Leipzig, becoming a specialist in gynecology and initially practicing gynecologist, Kabisch turned to sports medicine at an early age .

After the formation of the sports medical service in 1963, he became its deputy chief physician in East Berlin and took over the management of the area for general sports medical care. In this function, he organized the sports medical care of practically all major major sporting events in the GDR in the following decades, in particular the child and youth spartakiads in Berlin and the central gymnastics and sports festivals in Leipzig. Questions about children and youth sports and sports in prophylaxis and metaphylaxis were his preferred field of work.

As President of the German Association for Disabled Sports in the GDR until 1990, he was a committed administrator for disabled athletes.

His achievements were recognized with the award of the title of Chief Medical Officer and the honor of Honored Doctor of the People .

After the reunification and dissolution of the sports medicine service in 1990, Kabisch worked as head of the main sports medical advice center II in Berlin and was involved in the conceptual design of the Berlin State Institute for Sports Medicine (now the Center for Sports Medicine - Sports Health Park Berlin).
