Dieter Korn

Dieter Korn (* 1958 in Sundern ) is a German geologist and paleontologist .

He studied from 1990 to 1994 at the University of Tübingen and received his doctorate there in 1996. His dissertation was entitled The Palaeozoic ammonoids of the South Portuguese Zone, their stratigraphy and pelaeogeographical position . Since 2002 he has been working as custodian for paleozoic invertebrates (cephalopods) at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin.

Korn comes from the Sauerland , where he amassed extensive collections of paleozoic ammonoids at a young age . His research focuses on the stratigraphy of paleozoic sediments, the faunal societies of paleozoic invertebrates , the phylogeny and evolution of ammonoids, as well as the analysis of faunal sections and extinction events of the end of the Paleozoic Era ( Frasne - Famenne boundary, Devonian Carboniferous, Permian Triassic). Korn has written well over 100 scientific publications (including 5 books) and is active in numerous countries (North Africa, USA, Iran).
