Dieter Schlingloff

Dieter Schlingloff (born April 24, 1928 in Kassel ) is a German Indologist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Eschwege in 1944/1946 , he studied in Göttingen from 1947 to 1952 . From 1953 to 1961 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Orient Research of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin . From 1962 to 1968 he was a private lecturer in Göttingen . From 1968 to 1971 he was a full professor in Kiel . From 1972 to 1996 he was a university professor in Munich . He has been an honorary professor in Leipzig since 2005 .

His areas of expertise are Buddhist Sanskrit literature , ancient Indian art and cultural history. He researches murals in Ajanta .
