Dieter Schmitt (born November 13, 1944 in Kirf-Meurich ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After secondary school, Schmitt attended an agricultural college and a rural community college. From 1963 to 1972 he worked as a farmer and then as managing director of a machine and operating aid ring. Schmitt is married and has two children.

Schmitt joined the CDU in 1963. In 1974 he became a member of the Fisch local council and the Trier-Saarburg district council . In 1989 he was mayor of the municipality of fish and 1999 First Deputy Mayor of the district of Trier-Saarburg. From 1985 to 2006 he was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament . There he represented constituency 26 ( Konz / Saarburg ) and was among other things chairman of the committee for agriculture and viticulture as well as deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group.
