Dieter Schott

Dieter Schott (born June 10, 1954 in Stuttgart ) is a German historian and since 2004 Professor of Modern History with a focus on urban and environmental history at the Institute for History at the Technical University of Darmstadt .

Life

Dieter Schott studied history, English literature and political science at the University of Konstanz and at the Free University of Berlin from 1974 to 1980 . In 1987 he received his doctorate in Constance with a thesis on the "Constance Society 1918-1924". Since 1985 he has been a research assistant to Helmut Böhme (historian) (from 1990: research assistant, from 1996: senior assistant) at the Institute for History of the TU Darmstadt, where he received his habilitation in 1996 with the thesis "The Networking of the City". From 2000 to 2004 he held the chair "History of Urban Planning" at the Center for Urban History at the University of Leicester (Great Britain). In 2004 he was appointed to the professorship for modern history with a focus on urban and environmental history at the TU Darmstadt.

Schott is one of the leading European urban and environmental historians. Among other things, he is a member of the Council of the 'International Planning History Society', chairman of the Society for Urban History and Urbanization Research eV (GSU) and managing editor of the magazine "Informations zur modern Stadtgeschichte".
