Dieter Semetzky

Dieter Semetzky (born November 3, 1949 in Dresden ) is a former helmsman in rowing from the German Democratic Republic . In 1968 he won the silver medal in the four with helmsman at the Olympic Games .

Semetzky was the helmsman at SC Einheit Dresden from 1965 to 1968 under Hans Eckstein . In 1965 he drove the Dresden eight with Frank Forberger , Dieter Grahn , Peter Kremtz , Frank Rühle , Klaus Jacob , Manfred Gelpke , Dieter Schubert and Roland Göhler to second place in the GDR championship. Forberger, Rühle, Grahn and Schubert won the GDR championship in the four-man without a helmsman from 1965 to 1968, in 1966 the four rowers also competed with Semetzky as a four-man with a helmsman in the GDR championship and took third place.

In 1968 the eighth of the SC Einheit Dresden won the GDR championship title with the same staff as in the runner-up in 1965, and Kremtz, Göhler, Jacob and Gelpke won together with Semetzky in a four with helmsman. At the Olympic Games in 1968 both Dresden foursome competed for the GDR. On the Xochimilco regatta course , the four-man won without gold, the four-man with brought silver behind the New Zealanders. For winning the silver medal, Semetzky was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.

Semetzky later acquired the captain's license and went to sea for a decade. From 1985 he ran a holiday hotel, after the fall of the Wall he ran a travel company in Dresden.
