Dieter Theuer

Dieter Theuer (born October 6, 1933 in Berlin ) is a German gastroenterologist .

Life

Theuer obtained his Abitur in 1952 at the Franz-Mehring-Schule Berlin, then he studied human medicine at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1952 to 1957, and received his doctorate in 1958 with a dissertation on the treatment of esophageal diverticula . He became a specialist in internal medicine in 1964 and in gastroenterology in 1966. Theuer worked with the radiologist and steel therapist Dr. med. Dorothea E. Theuer, b. Mosenthin, married and has two children with her.

Theuer worked at the Charité in Berlin , which is part of the Humboldt University . As early as 1964, he was using the new development of a glass fiber endoscope (Fiberscope) according to Hirschowitz at the Charité in Berlin for the study of diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract. In 1973 he fled East Berlin with his wife and two children because of a humanistic-Christian attitude.

In Heilbronn he led the Institute for Practical Gastroenterology from 1978 to 1999 as a referral practice, from 2000 to 2013 he conducted research on hepatology at the Heidelberg University Hospital and was also a consultant for medical law .

He has published over 200 scientific publications, lectures, book chapters and monographs.

His book on liver and biliary tract diseases, published in 1972, was a standard work at the time.
