Dieter Vogellehner

Dieter Vogellehner (born December 31, 1937 in Ellwangen ; † March 14, 2002 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Vogell. ".

Vogellehner, who grew up in Sigmaringendorf , studied biology, chemistry, geology and geography at the University of Tübingen from 1957 . Influential teachers were Walter Zimmermann and Karl Mägdefrau . In the latter , he received his doctorate in 1965 with a thesis on the subject of " Investigations into the anatomy and systematics of the silicified woods from the Franconian and southern Thuringian Keuper ".

In 1965 he became a scientific assistant at the Botanical Institute of the University of Freiburg , where he worked on the anatomy and phylogeny of gymnosperms and the carbon flora of the Black Forest . In 1969 he completed his habilitation and that year became director of the university's botanical garden , which he completely redesigned. In 1975 Vogellehner became an adjunct professor and in 1978 professor of systematic botany and paleobotany .

Vogellehner became internationally known through numerous writings and books.

Vogellehner's pupils include the paleontologist and director of the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt Volker Mosbrugger and Thomas Speck , his successor as director of the botanical garden in Freiburg.
