Dieter Wessinghage

Dieter Wessinghage (born August 16, 1933 in Hagen ) is a German orthopedist , surgeon and rheumatologist . He is a professor emeritus and was director of the Regensburg University Orthopedic Clinic in Bad Abbach . His nephew is Thomas Wessinghage .

Life

Dieter Wessinghage spent his childhood in his hometown and had to move to Herborn / Nassau due to the war. He attended the Staatliche Realgymnasium Dillenburg and passed his Abitur at the Leibniz-Gymnasium Dortmund in 1954. He then studied business administration in Münster and then human medicine in Marburg, Würzburg and Munich. In 1961 he passed his medical state examination at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg , where he also received his doctorate.

From 1961 to 1963 he was a medical assistant at the Hospital Zum Heiligen Geist in Hagen-Haspe in surgery with Fritz Breuer and Kosta Aleksić and internal medicine with Keitlinghaus. His third station took him to Encker in Groß-Burgwedel, where he received his license to practice medicine in 1963 .

He then worked at the Kirchen / Sieg district hospital, in the Mainz University Surgical Clinic from 1966 with Fritz Kümmerle and in trauma surgery with Carl-Heinrich Schweikert. From 1968 Wessinghage was in charge and responsible for the introduction of rheumatoid surgery, knee joint replacement (full and sled prosthesis) and finger joint replacement according to Swanson. Until 1978 worked in orthopedics (including at the University Hospital Aachen with Anton Hopf ) and in hand surgery (in Gothenburg and Hamburg). Further stations were rheumatology in Wiesbaden and Bad Kreuznach, rheumatism orthopedics and surgery in Vainio, Heinola (Reumasairala SF) and Zurich. In 1972 he was appointed assistant professor at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . In the same year Wessinghage completed his habilitation there at the medical faculty in surgery under Kümmerle; this was followed by the appointment of senior physician in trauma surgery. In 1973 he became an associate professor for surgery at the Medical Faculty of the University of Mainz. On October 1, 1973, he was appointed head physician of the newly founded operative, later 1st Orthopedic Clinic in the "BRK Rheuma-Zentrum Bad Abbach", intended as the "Orthopedic University Clinic Regensburg".

From 1974 to 1994 he was Medical Director of the BRK Rheumatism Center in Bad Abbach. In 1984 a second habilitation took place on the initiative of the State Secretary in the Bavarian Ministry of Culture, Mathilde Berghofer-Weichner , by the "Natural Science Faculty III" University of Regensburg in the subject of clinical anatomy at one of the chairs for anatomy, represented by Karl-Heinz Wrobel . In 1996/1997 the "Orthopedic Clinic Bad Abbach" was contractually incorporated into the University of Regensburg as the "Orthopedic University Clinic".

In 1973 he completed his habilitation for the third time at the medical faculty of the University of Regensburg with the granting of the license to teach orthopedics combined with the appointment of university professor, chair holder and clinic director.
