Diethelm Sack

Diethelm Sack (born June 7, 1948 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German economist . From 1991 to March 31, 2010 he was a board member of Deutsche Bahn AG (formerly Deutsche Bundesbahn ). He was responsible for finance and controlling .

Career

Sack completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk and then studied business administration at the university of applied sciences in his hometown from 1967 to 1970 . After that, he was commercial director at Franz Garny AG until 1976 .

From 1976 to 1991 he headed the finance and accounting department at VDO Adolf Schindling AG . In November 1991 he became a member of the board of directors of the Deutsche Bundesbahn , where he took over the areas of finance and controlling and retained this function in 1994 when Deutsche Bahn AG was founded. From March 1993 he also held this position for the Deutsche Reichsbahn . Since June 2, 2008, he has also held this position for DB Mobility Logistics AG.

Between the dismissal of Johannes Ludewig on September 30, 1999 and Mehdorn's entry on December 16, 1999, Sack was provisional CEO of the company. On March 14, 2001, the DB supervisory board extended Sack's contract, which would have expired on November 10, 2001, for a further five years.

Sack left the company on March 31, 2010. On December 9, the Supervisory Board appointed Richard Lutz , previously Head of Controlling and Sacks' deputy, as his successor. The EBIT of Deutsche Bahn AG increased (excluding legacy repayment) from -2988 million euros (1994) to 2483 million euros (2008).

In April 2009, Sack founded an office community with Hartmut Mehdorn and Herbert Walter in Frankfurt am Main and advises companies.
