Diether S. Hoppe

Diether S. Hoppe (born December 20, 1938 in Vienna ) is an Austrian architect and university lecturer i. R.

Life

Hoppe was born in Vienna in 1938 as the son of government councilor Friedrich Hoppe and Elfriede Hoppe (née Pimmer). Together with his brothers Gert and Dirk, he spent his childhood in Tyrol, Upper Austria (Gmunden), Lower Austria (Süßenbrunn) and Vienna. On August 27, 1971, he married the architect Andrea Kupsky in Gaaden near Vienna. The marriage has two sons.

Career

He finished his school education in 1959 with the Matura at the HTLV Vienna I., Schellinggasse (higher department for building construction; engineer). In 1965 he graduated from the Vienna University of Technology with a degree in architecture . After completing his military service, he was appointed as an assistant at the Institute for "Building Construction and Design 1" at the Vienna University of Technology in 1966.

In May 1970 he passed the civil engineer examination and founded various architecture studios and planning groups (among others together with Sepp Frank, Heinz Neumann and Günther Feuerstein). In the same year he was appointed lecturer for “Spatial Support Systems and Structural Forms” at the Vienna University of Technology. In 1971 he founded his own architecture office for the planning and implementation of residential, industrial, social and cultural buildings as well as in the field of urban development planning and took part in national and international competitions. Another teaching assignment ("Industrial Construction for Architects") followed in 1977 and in his current position as a scientific official he took on various functions and areas of responsibility, including as deputy head of the institute, until his retirement on January 1, 2005.

In 1988 he wrote his dissertation at the Technical University of Vienna on the subject of “Free-span textile membrane structures; A contribution to historical, material-technical, constructive and current developments ”(tent construction). This teaching and researching occupation with membrane constructions also led to realizations such as the “ Schwechater tent ” in 1975, which at that time was the largest self-supporting membrane construction in Europe. His expertise also attracted international attention with his contribution to a free-spanning textile membrane construction " Roof for Ephesus " in 1989.

In addition to his continuing activity in the field of professional representation (including the “Federal Chamber for Architects”) since he was granted his authorization (1970), Diether S. Hoppe is also involved in cultural associations and institutions. So he was u. a. active on the board of the "Künstlerhaus" and also as president of the "Techniker Cercles".

Furthermore, he can complete various research assignments, including a. about exhibition construction, bridge constructions, light surface structures and school construction in Austria. In May 1986 he was sworn in as a “legally sworn expert” for the entire building construction.

Hoppe regards the renovation and adaptation of Otto Wagner's “Postsparkasse” in Vienna as the highlight of his career . This project was completed in December 2005. In December 2005 he returned to the Vienna University of Technology by being appointed honorary professor.

Hoppe has been a managing partner of "HOPPE architects ZT-GMBH" since 2005 and has been a registered mediator since 2007.
