Dietmar Bell (born March 30, 1961 in Wuppertal ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and has been a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia since the state elections in 2010 .

Life

Bell grew up with three siblings, one of them a twin brother, in Wuppertal- Unterbarmen . His parents are ticket sellers at the suspension railway and a seamstress. In 1980, Bell passed his Abitur at Siegesstrasse grammar school and intended to become a teacher, but initially worked as a driver and nursing assistant. Then he learned the profession of nurse and was head boy there. In 1988 he received a DGB scholarship to attend the Dortmund Social Academy , in 1989 he began studying social sciences at the Ruhr University in Bochum and in 1991 became union secretary at the ÖTV union in Wuppertal. Since 2001 he has been managing director of the Verdi union in Wuppertal.

politics

Bell has been chairman of the SPD Wuppertal since 2003. In 2009 he was a candidate for the SPD in the mayoral election in Wuppertal. He lost the election to Peter Jung ( CDU ).

In parliament he represents the parliamentary constituency Wuppertal I . Here he is a member of both the economic and scientific committees. He is the spokesman for science policy for the SPD parliamentary group. He is also chairman of the study commission on the "Digital Transformation of the Working World in North Rhine-Westphalia".

Private

Bell has been married since 1991 and lives in Wuppertal.
