Dietmar Pohl (born June 29, 1943 in Wilkau-Haßlau ) was a football player in the GDR upper league , in which he played for SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt and BSG Wismut Aue .

Athletic career

The defender began his career at home BSG Wismut Wilkau-Haßlau . In 1962 he moved to Aue for the local league club SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt. He played his first league game on September 30, 1962 in Leipzig against SC Lokomotive Leipzig (0: 1). From 1962 to 1975 Pohl played 267 league games and scored 15 goals. The defender convinced above all with his good positional play and his headball strength, but also as an ice-cold penalty taker. With six own goals , however, he is also the soccer player with the most own goals in the GDR league.

Between November 1964 and October 1970 Dietmar Pohl played 157 major league games in uninterrupted fashion. This series was only interrupted because he broke tibia and fibula on November 6, 1970 in Sofia in a friendly game between BSG Wismut against the Bulgarian national team .

Dietmar Pohl played the last league game on May 3, 1975 at home against FC Carl Zeiss Jena (0: 1). Before the game, he and Konrad Schaller and Lothar Schmiedel had been retired to serve as army reservists. However, since he was seriously injured shortly before the end of the game, he could not do the "honorary service". Due to the severity of his injury, he ended his career as an active football player some time later.

After finishing his playing career, Pohl became a coach. In the 1976/77 season he led the BSG Wismut Gera in the league. After the immediate relegation of his team he then trained for two years the GDR league team of BSG Progress Weida and from 1979 to 1982 the GDR league team BSG Motor Werdau . In the 1988/89 season he was Udo Schmuck's assistant trainer for one year at the league promoted BSG Sachsenring Zwickau . Later Dietmar Pohl was the responsible trainer in Zwickau for a short time .

As a BSG player, Dietmar Pohl only came to selection apprenticeships for the GDR in one B international match and in four junior internationals.
