Dietrich Becker (diplomat)

Dietrich Becker (born November 5, 1961 in Reinbek ) is a German diplomat and has been the German ambassador to Iceland since 2019 .

Career

After graduating from high school in 1981 and completing community service , Becker studied political science from 1983 to 1990 . He entered the service of the Foreign Office in 1991 and completed the preparatory service for the senior foreign service by 1993 . This was followed by a position at the German Embassy in Moscow from 1993 to 1997 . In 1997 he moved to the German embassy in Bamako , where he was appointed permanent representative of the ambassador until 1999. After further positions in the Foreign Office (1999–2002 and 2005–2009), in Kosovo and at the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina(2002–2005) he worked from 2009 to 2011 as permanent representative of the ambassador in Sofia .

In May 2011 Becker became head of the newly established German liaison office in Benghazi , where he maintained contact with the opposition forces in Libya. He was then permanent representative of the Ambassador Matthias Meyer until 2012 . From 2012 to 2015 he was Head of Division in the Foreign Office.

From 2015 to 2019 Becker was accredited as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bamako / Mali . He then moved to Iceland as an ambassador .
