Dietrich Kehl (born September 28, 1952 in Rostock ) is a former soccer player from the GDR . In the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the East German Football Association, he played for FC Hansa Rostock . He is a multiple junior and junior national player.

Soccer career

In 1961, Kehl was accepted into the children's team of SC Empor Rostock, from which FC Hansa Rostock developed in 1965. As a junior player he played for FC Hansa in the junior league and was part of the GDR junior national team from 1970. With her he played 14 international matches in 1970 and 1971. After completing his school education, he completed an apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer.

Kehl completed his first competitive games in the men's division at the age of 17 with the second team of FC Hansa in the second-rate GDR league . There he was used as a left winger for the first time on March 29, 1970 in the league game Hansa Rostock II - Forward Berlin II (4: 2). After 13 appearances in the 2nd team, the 1.74 m tall Kehl came on June 16, 1971 in the encounter Stahl Riesa - Hansa Rostock (1-0) as a center forward in the league for the first time. For the 1971/72 season he was officially nominated for the league team, but was only called up in eight point games, he only played twice as a left winger over 90 minutes. In contrast, he was a regular player in the 2nd team with 19 point matches. When at the beginning of the season 1972/73 with Schüler and Märzke two regular defenders in the league failed, Kehl received from coach Saß the chance to prove himself in this area. So he was continuously used as a left defender until the 9th league matchday. When the two regular players were available again, he was only used sporadically in five other league games again as a striker.

In 1973, Kehl was included in the squad of the GDR youth national team and played his first international youth game on March 27, 1973. In the game Poland - GDR U 21 (1: 3) he was a substitute for his club-mate Seering . By 1974, two more U-21 internationals followed with 90-minute stakes.

1973/74 made Kehl the breakthrough in the league. Coach Heinz Werner used him as a midfielder from the start, and Kehl then played all 26 Bundesliga point games. In the following season, things went well for Kehl only in the first half of the season with regular league appearances, in the second half of the season he was only used sporadically under the new Hansa coach Hergesell . After the 1974/75 season was over, Hansa Rostock had been relegated. Also in the GDR league season 1975/76 Kehl initially did not play in the first team, only towards the end of the season and in the promotion games he was regularly used as a left winger. Hansa managed to return to the league immediately, and in the new 1976/77 season Kehl conquered its regular place with 25 league games. On November 10, 1976, he played his only B international game as a left winger. Resurrected Hansa Rostock could not prevail and had to start again in the GDR league. Kehl retained his regular player status there and was instrumental in the renewed promotion with 17 point and eight promotion games and nine goals. Also in 1978/79 Kehl played the first eight league point games, but then he had to start his military service in November 1978.

After his discharge from the army in May 1980, Kehl played one more game in the GDR league for the Hanseatics, who had since been relegated again. The club rose back to the league and nominated Kehl for the 1980/81 season, but he was no longer used in the first team.

Then Kehl moved after 101 league games with six goals and 21 GDR Cup games with also six goals at the age of 28 in the course of the 1980/81 season to GDR league team Schiffahrt / Hafen Rostock . There he played five years in the GDR league until the team was relegated in 1985. During this time he completed 90 point games and scored 22 goals.

In 1986 Kehl returned to Hansa Rostock, where he was deputy club chairman until 1991. He then acted as publisher of the stadium magazine "Hansa-Revue" and was managing director of Hansa-Sport-, Werbe- undverkaufsdienst GmbH until 1996. From 2006 to 2007 Kehl was first chairman of SV Hafen Rostock 61 and in 2006 opened a sports shop in Rostock together with Manfred Wimmer .
