Dietrich Mack (dramaturge)

Dietrich Mack (* 1940 ) is a German author and film producer as well as a former dramaturge at the Bayreuth Festival and head of the TV film and music department at Südwestrundfunk (SWR).

After studying philosophy, theater, music and art history in Cologne and Vienna, Mack worked in the 1960s and 1970s as assistant director, dramaturge and press manager of the festival and later co-editor of Cosima Wagner's diaries in Bayreuth .

Until 2005 he worked for Südwestfunk (SWF) and its successor Südwestrundfunk (SWR). As a producer and editor he was responsible for films such as Lenz or Die Freiheit (1986), Alone Among Women (1991), Goebbels and Geduldig (2002) or Heimat 3 - Chronicle of a turning point . With the merger of the SWF and SDR in 1998, Mack became head of the TV games and music department at SWR. He had to resign in 2002 as head of the film and series department. He has been a freelance writer and producer since 2005. He also held various teaching positions, for example at the Universities of Erlangen and Mainz, at the Danube University Krems and at the Research Institute for Music Theater at the University of Bayreuth.

Mack was married to Gudrun Armann from 1970 to 1975 .
