Dietrich the elder of Gemmingen

Dietrich the Elder of Gemmingen , also Dietrich the Old or Dietrich II. (Mentioned from 1339; † around 1374) is the common progenitor of the two lines Steinegg and Gemmingen of the A line (Guttenberg) of the barons of Gemmingen . He had numerous possessions, especially in the Kraichgau .

Life

Dietrich von Gemmingen was a son of Dieter von Gemmingen (exp. 1283–97) and Mechthild von Talheim. In 1339 he appears as a surety in a document in which Bishop Gerhard von Speyer assured the repayment of a loan amount of 400 guilders to Zeisolf von Magenheim. In 1343 he received from Wilhelm von Wunstein, called von Kirchhausen, and his brothers their own people in Kirchhausen , Stebbach , Richen and Ittlingen as a pledge for three years. In 1350 Dietrich owned a sixth of the wine tenth in Sulzfeld . In 1352 Dietrich received a third of the castle in Gemmingen and the church set in Berwangen as a fiefdom from Dietrich von Bonlanden. In 1356, Hans von Berlichingen and his wife Gerde sold their Berlichinger Hof in Rappenau to Dietrich and Dieter von Gemmingen for redemption in six years without any repurchase. The farm later came to Dieter von Gemmingen. In 1358 Dietrich acquired Eberhard's estate in Stetten from the Sinsheim abbot (from the Gemminger branch of the Velscher ) for 60 guilders . He also acquired the village of Schafhausen with all rights.

Dietrich was married to Elisabeth von Mauer († 1354). Together with his wife, Dietrich is listed in the Seelbuch of the Wimpfen Abbey , where they were commemorated with a mass for the day of St. Benedict.

The grave stone of his wife, originally in the old Gemminger church is now in the garden of the Gemminger Lower Castle . It is the oldest of the numerous grave slabs kept there. The upper third of the plate shows the coat of arms of the Wall, the majuscule inscription names the deceased and her date of death.
