Dietz replica

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Dietz replica is the special form of a replica or reproduction of an existing painting or drawing . It is a costly duplication method in a screen printing technique produced. It was developed by Günter Dietz in 1964 and has been named after him ever since. The starting point for his invention was the "Impression de Pochoir" (French, in German: stencil printing ).

Procedure

What is special about the Dietz replication process is that it also takes into account the third dimension of the original painting. In oil paintings, for example, the paint was sometimes applied so thickly by the artist that it left a millimeter-high “mountain of color” on the canvas when it dried. You can often only see this when you get closer to a painting and look at it up close. You can even see whether the paint was applied with a brush, spatula or the like, for example. Even this artist's style (the way in which the paint was applied) can be reproduced with the Dietz process.

After a special scan of the original, an exact copy of this "mountain of color" is created in up to 180 printing processes, each with a new template. The materials used by the respective artist are used. In addition to oil paintings, watercolors , pastels and drawings can also be reproduced.

meaning

The great loyalty to the original means that the company is obliged to provide each replica with a signature that can only be recognized under X-ray radiation. Many artists, such as Friedensreich Hundertwasser , Heinz Mack , Niki de Saint Phalle or Pablo Picasso , had Dietz replicas made of their works, which were sold in limited editions. Old masters like Caspar David Friedrich were also marketed in this way.
