Digital Extremes is a Canadian game developer based in London, Ontario . The studio was founded in 1993 by James Schmalz and gained particular fame through his involvement in the development of the Unreal series . In 2001, a second studio called Digital Extremes Toronto was opened in Toronto ( Ontario ) , which is mainly responsible for the development of console games. The London studio was later renamed Digital Extremes London .
